What’s new about this grade? Well, it is stronger and stiffer than the existing grades used in running rigging.
Dyneema® SK90 has indeed over 10% higher tenacity and is 25% stiffer than Dyneema® SK75, while not compromising on characteristics such as extreme light weight, high durability and easy of handling that make Dyneema® the preferred choice for every sailor.
Dyneema® SK90 has been developed to satisfy the needs of top top-notch sailing teams, such as the Dutch Olympic 470 team and Alinghi. These teams, in collaboration with our licensees, manufacturers of yacht rigging have been involved in the Research and Development stages of Dyneema® SK90, and had the task to specify requirements and challenge our engineers in the quest for the best running rigging.
Both Alinghi and the Dutch Olympic 470 team incorporated the prototype fiber, at that time known as “Dyneema® SKX”, in their training and felt so confident about the performance of the ropes made with this fiber that they decided to use them during the teams’ most important challenges.
The results are well known: Alinghi managed to successfully defend the America’s Cup by just being faster than their adversary by one second and the Dutch sailors Marceline & Lobke won a medal in the Olympic 470 class during last years Beijing Olympics.
Keep you posted…

If you plan to visit the World Yacht Racing Forum in Monaco this week and would like to discuss in more detail the advantages and developments of our Dyneema® fiber, please meet with our colleague Marcel Alberts. He will be happy to meet you during this occasion.
Best regards,

METS (Marine Equipment Trade Show) is the world’s largest exhibition for the marine industry. It was held in Amsterdam, from November 17th to November 19th.
During METS 2009 our customers launched their new lines based on our grade Dyneema® SK90; the DSM Dyneema Sports Team was there to support customers introducing this high modulus grade, by being present at their booths and giving presentations to illustrate the properties of this product.
We are very happy with the attention these new lines with the new fiber have attracted.
DSM Dyneema has also hosted the annual drink, on Wednesday after the Show, at Café ‘t overkant. This year the drink was held in collaboration with I-Coats. We want to thank everybody who attended the drink. I have to say the small Café was very busy and I think we have to consider a new venue for next year.
Overall the atmosphere at the METS was more positive than last year, more vibration and excitement, more interaction within an even bigger show.
We were very pleased to meet the folks we already knew, and to meet new ones.

Welcome to my blog!
My name is Daniela Ribezzo, I work as Application and End Users’ Marketing Manager Yachting at DSM Dyneema for more than four years.
During the METS 2006, when the DSM Dyneema Yachting Team launched Dyneema® SK78, our low creep grade, we organized a panel discussion with the stakeholders in the industry to start a more in depth communication.
Today we feel like we should communicate even more with you, the end users, in order to better understand your needs and be able to increase yor satisfaction; seen the importance of internet in our daily life, we thought a blog would be an easy and interesting way to start the conversation with you.
However, today we have an extra reason for starting this communication: the commercial launch of Dyneema® SK90!
Later this week you may expect more details about this grade, please let me first introduce you to the DSM Dyneema Yachting Team:
Marcel Alberts is our Global Marketing Manager; he has been working for DSM Dyneema in yachting for over 5 years in different positions and has a very good insight not only about the market, but also about the technical stuffs.
Michelle Rose is our Area Sales Manager in the US; she joined us over one year ago, but has many years of experience in the yachting industry and sailcloth through her work with Saint-Gobain.
Michiel de Kock is our Area Sales Manager in Asia; he has been working with DSM Dyneema for over 10 years in different positions and has a lot of experience in the global yachting market, and the technical requirements in this application.
Jeroen Dorenbusch is the youngest in our team; he has joined DSM Dyneema 3 years ago and has been working in different positions. Jeroen is our Area Sales Manager EMEA (Europe Middle East & Africa) and has been learning very fast about this industry.
Although we are not sailors by background, we have learned very much about yachting in the past years and really enjoy it! Whenever possible we try to hit the water.
I hope this blog will give us the opportunity not only to share ideas with you, but also to learn trends and requirements for the yachting market.
